KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

We continue to see stories of everyday heroes in Kansas City, people doing what they can to make a difference.

With social distancing, many of us are unable to visit our loved ones in nursing homes or assisted-living communities. That’s why Tammie Johnson grabbed some friends to serenade her mom, and now they’re spreading joy to facilities around the metro.

But that’s not the only feel-good story from the COVID-19 shutdown in Kansas City.

With students adjusting to learning from home, teachers have been parading through neighborhoods offering encouragement from their cars. And many people are pulling out sewing machines, making masks to help with the shortage of health care workers.

Nonprofits are also finding new ways to reach out to the homeless during the outbreak, and all over the metro neighbors are helping neighbors by providing food for those who need it.

It’s easy to get caught up in the negativity of the outbreak, but there are so many positive things in Kansas City during difficult times.
